Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to identify the mediation effect of resilience between perceived stress and school adjustment in adolescents.

Methods: The participants were 268 students, first to third-grade in a middle school. The instruments used were; a self-reported questionnaire on the resilience, school adjustment, and stress developed for adolescents in Korea. Descriptive, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses were used.

Results: There was a significant relationship between perceived stress and school adjustment (r=-.309, p<.001) and resilience (r=-.447, p<.001). The result of analysis of three multiple regression equation showed that resilience had a significant mediating effect on the relation of perceived stress and school adjustment in adolescents.

Conclusion: The negative influence of perceived stress on school adjustment was decreased through the mediating effects of resilience in adolescents. Comprehensive interventions designed to reduce perceived stress and improve resilience might be helpful for school adjustment in adolescents.
